Homeopathy is a therapeutic method that uses diluted substances to relieve symptoms. The active ingredients in homeopathic medicines include diluted plants, animals or minerals that relieve the same symptoms they cause at full strength (i.e., a microdose of coffee bean helps to relieve nervousness).
Homeopathic medicines have been used for more than 200 years. What are the Active Ingredients in Camilia?
Camilia contains three active ingredients–Chamomilla 9C HPUS (German chamomile), Phytolacca decandra 5C HPUS (Poke plant), and Rheum 5C HPUS (Chinese rhubarb). A homeopathic medicine’s active ingredients are listed on the product label in Latin, which is the international packaging standard.
On the label, 5C and 9C indicate the homeopathic dilution. The Centesimal scale or “C,” means that each dilution is 100 times more diluted than the previous one. The number, 5 or 9, indicates how many times the substance has been diluted using this process. For instance, 5C is 100 times more diluted than 4C.
HPUS stands for Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States. The HPUS defines the production and usage standards recognized by all reputable manufacturers and the federal government. Parents should look for this acronym on labels of homeopathic products. It ensures consumers that the ingredients were prepared according to the high standards of this official guideline.
Does Camilia contain Belladonna?
Camilia does not contain Belladonna. When manufactured according to the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States under Good Manufacturing Practices, Belladonna is a safe and valuable homeopathic medicine.
How often should I use give Camilia teething medicine to my child?
The recommended dosage is one entire liquid dose; repeat every 15 minutes for 2 more doses. This repetition of 3 doses can be repeated 3 times a day for a total of 9 doses each day. If your child is still presenting symptoms after 3 days, we recommend confirming with your pediatrician that your child’s symptoms are caused by teething and not a more serious underlying condition. Stop use and ask a doctor if symptoms persist for more than 3 days or worsen, or if inflammation, fever, or rash develops.
Does Camilia have any known side effects? Does it have any contraindications or interact with other medications?
Camilia has no known side effects and no contraindications. It can be taken with other medications you may be giving your child.
Other manufacturers’ teething medications contain benzocaine. Why is the FDA concerned about its use?
On May 23, 2018, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reinforced its April 2011 warning to consumers that over-the-counter teething products containing benzocaine pose a serious risk to infants and children: FDA takes action against the use of OTC benzocaine teething products due to serious safety risk, lack of benefit. Camilia’s active ingredients are chemically unrelated to ingredients of concern to FDA. Camilia does not contain benzocaine.
Is Camilia regulated by the FDA? Has it been tested and proven to be safe?
Homeopathic medicines, including Camilia, have been regulated as drugs by the FDA since 1938. Like conventional over-the-counter medications, homeopathic medicines are clearly labeled for specific indications and direction, making choices easier for consumers.
Does the Camilia unit-liquid dose contain any BPA in the plastic?
